Ableton Live

Ableton Live is the primary DAW I use for recording, sound design, live performance, and mixing.

Things I like about it

  • Clip launcher
  • Amazing built-in library of effects, synths, and samples
  • Clean, intuitive interface
  • Tempo sync with other software and devices using Ableton Link
  • Popular within the electronic music community (which makes it easy to find resources and tutorials)
  • Top-notch time-warping algorithms
  • Really good hardware support for MIDI controllers
  • Max for Live

Things I don't like about it

  • No Linux support (this is ultimately why I bought a Mac)
  • Not as customizable as REAPER when it comes to macros, scripting, toolbars, and keyboard shortcuts
  • Can't open more than one project at a time (on MacOS)
